I AM ALWAYS A SLUT FOR ARO!DEAN TOO HELLO FRIEND
I’ve seen people arguing lately that him being aro devalues characters that are framed as “love interests” for him but- that’s honestly not how it works? Cassie or Lisa didn’t mean any less just because he wasn’t attracted to them romantically.
Watching those episodes, he never interacted with either of them like someone who was in love would. He loved Cassie, appreciated her, cared about her a hell of a lot but they interacted more like best friends, in my opinion. Like, friends with benefits isn’t quite right- he cared about her and valued her and appreciated her. And having sex? He definitely appreciated that. But he wouldn’t have ever settled down into a domestic happy married life with her even if he hadn’t left.
With Lisa- he tried, he really tried. To have the perfect domestic life. To do the wife and kid and suburban house thing. But… it was like he was pretending, doing what was expected to be happy in that situation rather than what he was really content with. Again- he likes sex. Loves it. He cared about her a lot and wanted her to be happy, but- Lisa always seemed to want more romance than Dean’s pretending could give her.
And I haven’t rewatched episodes with Cassie or Lisa recently at all so I’m just going off my memory, I’m not saying this is fact and it’s more interpretation and opinion than anything else, but- Dean is aromantic and it doesn’t make him or anyone he’s been with worth any less as people or characters just because he doesn’t feel romantic attraction.
i’m going scream i love this a lot thank u
